Your Impact

When you support Albany Medical Center, you ensure that our mission is carried out in the following key areas:

Patient Care

TOP-NOTCH CARE AND CONCERN: Laura and Al Williams met in college and had been together for 45 years. During that time, Al shares he’d used up “9.5 of my 9 lives” due to his love of football, and racing motorcycles and cars. One nice sunny day, they thought they’d take a short snowmobile ride. The throttle stuck, and they were thrown into a tree. Critically injured, they were determined to get to Albany Medical Center due to its highly trained staff. Despite his multiple injuries, Al’s primary concern was for Laura and her recovery. Today, they are incredibly thankful for the help they received from the staff that enabled them to be here today.

A FIGHTER’S SPIRIT: Ethan’s journey with the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital began when he was just 15 months old and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Over the years, more challenges came—celiac disease and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. By age 8, new symptoms appeared, and pediatric rheumatologist Dr. Barbara Ostrov pieced everything together, diagnosing lupus. With the right treatment, Ethan’s health turned around. Today, he’s full of energy, running, jumping, and even earning his black belt in taekwondo!

Education

ALBANY MEDICAL COLLEGE PROVIDES A UNIQUE LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Albany Medical College trains the next generation of doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals. Karissa Leong, a recent graduate from Albany Medical College has decided to continue with her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albany Medical Center even though she had opportunities in other parts of the country. For her, Albany Medical College stands out – for its strong sense of community, and the robust training experiences available to for residents. She shares, “we see it all. And that’s what makes it very interesting to be a physician here, and it’s very important for training.”

A LEGACY OF CARE: For Joshua Lyons, medicine is more than a career, it’s a family legacy. His grandfather and father were both internists, and Joshua knew early on he wanted to follow in their footsteps. While medical school often comes with heavy financial burdens, the Tartaglia Scholarship lifted that weight and gave him flexibility in his studies. The support meant even more knowing his father once worked alongside Dr. Tartaglia. Today, Joshua is proud to continue his family’s deep connection to Albany Med.

Biomedical Research

SIGNIFICANT RESEARCH: Albany Medical Center’s physicians and scientists are motivated to help save lives and reduce suffering. THE FUTURE OF NEONATOLOGY: At Albany Medical Center, the Neonatology Fellowship is preparing the next generation of doctors who will care for the tiniest and most fragile patients. Each fellow spends three years learning side-by-side with experienced faculty, gaining hands-on training in the NICU while also pursuing research that shapes the future of newborn medicine. With a focus on family-centered care, fellows are part of a team that supports more than 800 babies each year. It’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a lasting difference.

“I like to use the word “family” when I describe us at Albany Medical Center, and that’s what we are. I’m from this area. And the community around here understands and appreciates Albany Med. I had opportunities to settle at other parts of the country, but I always wanted to come back here. It’s home to me.”
